At Teegarden Veterinary Clinic, we offer a variety of services to care for your pet. If you have any questions or would like more information on how we can care for your pet, please contact us today.

Behavior Counseling

We are available for consultation in behavioral management. Consultations involve a detailed behavioral history, examination, temperament evaluation, diagnostic testing if deemed appropriate to rule out potential underlying medical problems, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan. The treatment plan may include behavioral and environmental modification, training recommendations, and anxiety relieving medications. In some cases, referral to a board certified veterinary behaviorist may be needed.

Dental Care

As your pet ages you will notice subtle changes. It is important to understand normal aging versus abnormal changes in your pet’s health. Proper dental care is one of the foundations of maintaining your pet’s health and comfort. Periodontal disease is a leading health care problem. Dental disease puts a stress on your pet’s immune system and can lead to serious liver, kidney, respiratory, and heart disease. We provide an extensive dental care program including ultrasonic cleaning, periodontal therapy, care for damaged teeth, and a barrier sealant to help retard future tarter build up. Our state of the art digital dental x-ray system allows us to diagnose and treat otherwise hidden dental disease. Proper preventative dental care can add years to the life of your pet.

Dermatology

There are many conditions that can cause your pet’s skin, hair, ears, and nails to be abnormal. During your pet’s evaluation, our veterinarians can identify skin lesions/sores and possible patterns they form on your pet which aids in the selection of proper diagnostic procedures. Diagnostics, such as skin and ear cytology, skin scrapings, skin and ear cultures, skin testing, and skin biopsy may be utilized. After a comprehensive examination, our doctors will discuss a plan to alleviate the discomfort your pet is experiencing.

Diagnostics

In addition to our on-site laboratory, digital radiography, endoscopy, and ultrasonography, we have various other diagnostic equipment available at our clinic to provide your pet with accurate and timely test results. These tools, which include electrocardiogram (ECG), blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and tonometry capabilities, allow our veterinarians to provide your pet with a more comprehensive evaluation and institute treatment accordingly. We also have veterinary specialists available for telephone consultation and are familiar with several referral locations if further testing and treatment are deemed necessary.

Emergencies

Our health care team is prepared to provide for your pet’s emergencies during our regular office hours. If your pet requires emergency services after hours, we utilize the services of the Tri-County Animal Emergency Clinic in Peoria and the Animal Emergency Clinic of McLean County in Bloomington to provide 24 hour emergency care for our clients and their pets. Both emergency facilities are fully staffed during our off hours and throughout the weekend. See “Emergencies” tab for address and contact information for the emergency clinics.

Euthanasia

We all understand how difficult it is to say goodbye to a long-time friend. If you are making the decision to euthanize your beloved pet, we can help guide you through the process. We work with you to ensure your pet’s comfort and dignity. We also offer options for taking care of the remains, including cremation services through local pet crematories.

Hospitalization

In some instances, your pet may need close monitoring and treatment. We provide hospitalization in these instances where your pet’s condition needs to be carefully monitored by our veterinarians and highly trained staff. For continued treatment of our critical care patients overnight and during the weekend, we may recommend transferring your pet to either the Tri-County Animal Emergency Clinic or the Animal Emergency Clinic of McClean County. We trust the highly trained staff at both emergency facilities to provide around the clock observation and care your pet needs.

Laboratory

Our clinic is fully equipped with on-site laboratory equipment to aid in diagnosing your pet as quickly and accurately as possible. With these results available so rapidly, we are able to
immediately institute treatment for our sick patients. We also utilize full service outside veterinary laboratories for more advanced diagnostics and preventative monitoring.

Medicine

Even with the very best care, pets do become sick. We understand that you want the best possible care for your pet whenever he or she is not feeling well. Through continued education, our veterinarians stay current on the most recent and advanced information to diagnose and treat your pet. This includes all realms of your pet’s care, such as cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and surgery.

Microchip

The microchip contains a personal, one-of-a-kind identification number, which is injected under the skin of your pet just like a vaccination. This provides a permanent, positive identification which cannot be lost, altered, or intentionally removed – a safe, simple, inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft. Microchips have helped reunite numerous pets with their families. By microchipping and registering your pet in your name, it will greatly increase the chances of a safe recovery in unfortunate situations.

Nutrition Counseling

Our trained staff can help you choose the right diet for your pet’s life stage to keep him or her healthy. We offer prescription diets to address the needs of pets with ongoing health issues. Precise nutrition has a great impact on your pet’s health.

Pain Management

Our pets feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances that we do. We make it a priority to keep our patients comfortable and employ pre-emptive pain management strategies for our surgical patients and also for pets with chronic pain, like arthritis. Most of our post-operative patients are sent home with pain medication as we feel that proper pain management leads to quicker recovery.

Pharmacy

We maintain a fully stocked supply of pharmaceuticals on site to meet the needs of your pet. Because prescriptions are filled promptly during your pet’s appointment, treatment can be instituted immediately. For special medication needs, we work with a local compounding pharmacy.

Preventative Care & Vaccinations

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. Annual or semi-annual comprehensive preventative examinations are an effective way to protect younger animals from common, preventable illnesses and diseases, as well as helping older pets live longer, healthier lives. These examinations make it possible for our veterinarians to discover possible problems before signs appear and before they become more serious, expensive to treat diseases. The earlier potential issues are detected, the more favorable the outcome. We understand that each pet has his or her own individual needs that are based on both lifestyle and stage of life. After discussing your pet’s needs, we will customize a preventative health care plan, including a comprehensive physical examination; nutritional recommendations; flea, tick, heartworm, and intestinal parasite control; intestinal parasite screening; vaccination schedule; and specialized blood tests based on life stage, including annual heartworm testing and tick-borne disease screening for canines.

Digital Radiology

Radiographs or x-rays are an important diagnostic aid. At Teegarden Veterinary Clinic, we use state of the art digital x-rays to evaluate skeletal, dental, cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, internal organ, and urinary systems. These digital radiographs offer an advantage over plain film x-rays as they allow our veterinarians to see better detail and the images are available much quicker than the old processor method. We can also easily submit radiographs to specialists for additional interpretation.

Surgery

We take special care of all of our surgical patients. After a thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation, which includes a physical examination and pre-anesthetic blood work as a test of organ function for revealing possible hidden health conditions or genetic disorders, an individualized anesthetic plan is formulated for your pet. One of our certified veterinary technicians will monitor your pet during the procedure and provide post-surgical nursing care. Our advance monitoring equipment includes electrocardiogram (ECG), pulse oximetry (blood oxygen), blood pressure, respiration, body temperature, and capnography (carbon dioxide) monitors. Our doctors are highly skilled surgeons – offering a wide range of surgical procedures from a routine ovariohysterectomy (spay) or castration to complicated orthopedic procedures, mass removals, and emergency procedures.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography is a very useful and non-invasive tool in diagnostics. It can be used to evaluate the abdominal organs, such as the liver, spleen, stomach, gallbladder, intestines, kidneys, and urinary bladder. Additionally, pregnancy examinations can be performed with an ultrasound. Both of our veterinarians have received hands-on training in ultrasonography. We can also submit images from your pet’s ultrasound to a specialist for review.
